Mobile car wash and oil change startup partners with automaker

The May issue of NOLN features quick lubes looking to take their operations on the road for mobile service. A recent partnership by Ford includes a similar idea for a different industry sector.

North Carolina-based Spiffy announced that its working with the automaker to provide mobile car wash services via Ford’s connected car platforms, WRAL reports.

Spiffy provides mobile car wash and detailing services. The service comes to the client’s car, and Ford is able to unlock the cars through its connective technology, the Raleigh news station reported. The launch is being finalized for debut in Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Los Angeles and Raleigh.

Spiffy also offers a mobile oil change service, according to its website. It’s advertised for the same five cities and includes a standard option with full synthetic oil for $69 as well as a premium option with Mobil 1 advanced full synthetic for $30 more. Both are advertised with “multi-point inspections.”

Neither the WRAL report nor Ford’s own posts about the Spiffy mention oil change services as part of the partnership.

The car wash service through Ford will be available for certain newer Ford and Lincoln models that have the brands’ “Connect” functionality.

Ford envisions all sorts of services being routed through its vehicles via the FordPass Connect system. In a post on Medium, a Ford representative wrote about the launch of a service that delivers Amazon packages directly to vehicles.

“Through our Ford connected vehicle services, other businesses are able to integrate their apps with Ford and Lincoln connected vehicles,” wrote Lorin Kennedy, FordPass Ecosystem business leader. “This will allow us to deliver additional new services to our customers’ vehicles that improve their daily lives.”

The post also mentioned similar mobile car wash partnerships with Sparkl in Chicago, as well as another company called Rub A Dub.
